                              Certification Requirements

Certification Dives

  • Open Water Certification Dives are conducted monthly and registration is on a first come, first served basis.  Class sizes are limited based upon student to instructor required ratios.

  • Certification consists of two days and a total of four dives.  Briefing for day one begins Saturday at 10:00 A.M. sharp.  You will not be able to participate if you are late!

  • Successful completion of confined water sessions, knowledge reviews, quizzes and exam.

  • No Dive Knives are allowed on Lake Rawlings Property.

Personal Gear

  • Divers Source provides the following equipment for your certification dive:  BCD, regulator, compass, and tank.  You must obtain your personal gear consisting of mask, fins, snorkel and boots.  Divers Source offers two specially priced student packages.  Our experienced staff will assist you in selecting the correct size for a comfortable fit.

Wetsuit and Weight Belt Rental

  • Divers Source carries a full line of wetsuits and weight belts available for rental. Hoods and gloves may also be rented during colder months.  Weekend packages are available and should be reserved in advance.  A rental form must be completed and either Visa, Master Card or American Express is required as a deposit (in the event of loss or damage).  Rental equipment is available for pick up the Wednesday prior to the certification and must be returned (clean and dry) the Tuesday following certification or additional charges will apply. We do not accept return of rental equipment at the quarry.

Quarry Fees

  • Divers Source does not charge additional fees for your certification, however, Lake Rawlings charges for entry and air fills.  The cost is currently $50.00 per student for the weekend. The cost for entry to the quarry and air fills must be paid in advance to Divers Source upon registration for the checkout.  This entry/air fee is non-refundable (refer to Divers Source cancellation policy).

 Lodging/Food

  • Students are responsible for making their own arrangements for hotels or camping.  The quarry offers camp sites which must be reserved and additional fees apply.  Please contact Lake Rawlings directly to reserve camp sites.  The closest hotel is The Nottoway (804-478-4421) which also has an attached restaurant.  Additional hotels are located in South Hill, approximately 20 minutes from the quarry.  Students should bring their own food and drink as there are no food services at the quarry.  You will need at a minimum lunch and water for both days.

 Guests

  • Certified divers may not participate with the class, but can remain at a distance while students are performing skills.  Children must have adult supervision at all times.
